Herbert Wells wrote: “For me London is the most interesting, the most beautiful and the most amazing city in the world”. Probably today it’s hard to argue with this statement: the capital of foggy Albion combines traditions and the present, past and future, gothic buildings and the newest business-centres. Found about 2 thousand years ago as Roman fortress the city has been changed many times.
It’s not possible to talk about London as about united city: having grow up it absorbed surrounding settlements that up to now preserved their individuality. Any area of megapolis has its own main street and square. Even centre consists of several parts: financial centre is the City, entertaining is West End, governmental is Westmisnter, press is connected with Fleet Street. People don’t live in the centre preferring suburbs. That’s why some of them have to go about 150 km from home to work!
There are many things to do in London. It attracts different tourists: lovers of fashionable club music and expensive shops, football fans, connoisseurs of traditions and gothic architecture…Everybody will find entertainment to one’s taste: entertainment centres sparkling with lights are combining with strict cathedrals, bright red telephone boxes and two-storeyed buses shine against a background of grey buildings creating harmonious look of Great Britain’s capital. London restaurants offer dishes of 70 countries. There are also many pubs and bars in London where you can taste traditional English bears and ales.
